It's important to note that Angelina Jolie who plays Fox in this film, is not the main character. This could show that men are being casted as the main characters rather than women. This could be down to a growing in sexual awareness of the present, thus women are often being objectified more, and the men are the main protagonists. Since film in general is more patriarchal, this is an interesting thing to look into. Are action women dieing?
1. When we first see Fox, she is wearing a dress - obviously showing her femininity. But she also has guns, something men tend to be accosiated with.
2. Something quite interesting is that Fox has tatoo's (although they seem to represent the clan she is in), something accosiated with not only men, but violent muscular men...and Fox is violent.
3. When it comes to cars, women are usually the Passengers screaming for their lives. But in 'Wanted', Fox drives a very fast sports car, frantically, whilst Wesley (James McAvoy) screams for his life. Arguably, women could be considered worse drivers than men, so this almost proves the piont wrong.
4. Fox is objectified, although not often. In the chase scene when she is leaning out of the car windscreen he legs are objectified, as they are in 'Tomb Raider'.
Another example is when Jolie leaves a bath, in which she just pulls a towel around her before the camera tilts up. Thus the audience gets a slight view of the behind, and then her upper body. These two areas are the only parts in which Fox is objectified.
5. There is a section in which Fox fights Wesley. In the fight Wesley is shown to be weak as Fox easily man-handle's him. Women have been shown to be strong fighters in the action genre, but Fox is violent in her general action.
